Three weeks course on repairing of perkins brailler, mobility, abacus and low vision From 10th to 28th June at Multan


The three weeks course on repairing of perkin Brailler and re-scheduled three weeks course on mobility, abacus and low vision were started from 10th of June under the sponsorship of Pakistan Disabled Foundation in collaboration with Mohammad Bin Qasim Welfare Centre for the Blind Multan. Both the courses were participated by the teachers/subject specialist nominated by the Directorate General of Special Education Government of Pakistan, Department of Special Education Government of Punjab and NGO’s from all over the country. Some of the developing countries also nominated their representative but due to the visa problem and political reasons, only representative from “Lesotho” Africa succeeded to join the courses. The foreign trained and experienced instructors Mr. Subramaniam from Malaysia and Mr. Javaid Akhtter from Pakistan Conducted the course on repairing of Perkin Brailler and course on Mobility, Abacus and Low Vision respectively. Mr. Rafi Memon and Mr. Shahid Rasheed had served as the resource persons of the courses respectively. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Dr. Zafarullah, Vice Chancellor of the Bhauddin Zakeria University as the Chief Guest while Mr. Shahid Memon presided over the ceremony, Mr. Qaim Khan Kirmany Chief Executive of the Mohammad Bin Qasim Welfare Centre for the Blind presented the Address of Welcome. While Miss Shakila Yasmin, from the PDF Quaid-e-Azam academy was the host of the program. During the tour of the centre handicrafts prepared by the visually impaired girls were presented to the Chief Guest Dr. Zafaraullah who highly appreciated the talent and awarded cash prizes.

The concluding ceremony of the two different courses on repairing of perkin Brailler, mobility, abacus and low vision organized by Pakistan Disabled Foundation was held on 28th evening of June in Mohammad Bin Qasim Welfare Centre for the Blind together with Mr. Javaid Hashmi renowned parliamentarian and two Member provincial assembly. Mr. Shahid Ahmed Memon Chief of PDF presided over the ceremony and given the check of rs. 50,000 as the donation to Muhammad Bin Qasim welfare centre and Head of the Mohammad Bin Qasim Welfare Centre of the Blind Mr. Qaim Khan Kirmani presented the Address of Welcome while The Minister of Special Education Government of Punjab Mr. Malik Mohammad Iqbal Channer graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest.

To observe the Meelad-un-Nabi (The Birth Ceremony of Prophet Peace Be Upon Him) & Pakistan Day, a series of countrywide programs was chalked-out by the Head office of PDF Karachi. The first program of the same was held in Karachi in 2 phases. The competitions of Essay Writing, Speech, Quiz, and Naat & National Songs were held on 10th of March 2008 in PDF Quaid-e-Azam Academy among the Disabled Persons from different institutions including Ida Reu School for the Blind who contributed and succeeded a lot.

The program of Scholar’s expression on the above said occasion and Prize Distribution ceremony was held on 17th of March 2008 in Markaz-e-Islami, City Government Auditorium at Ayesha Manzil, Karachi. To grace the Pakistan day, disabled children from institutions, educators and social workers, largely attended the program.

The Madam Fauzia Larry Minster of Health, Government of Sindh graced the occasion by her valuable expression. She also distributed awards and prizes to the winners of the competitions and Pride of Performance.

Observence of Eid Milad-un-Nabi and Pakistan Day


To highlight the tenth anniversary of PDF, a joint program had arranged on seerat-un-Nabi and Pakistan Day in collaboration with Baluchistan Blind Relief Association on 31st of March 2008 in Quetta. The program was proceeded by speech and naat. The program was reasonably covered by media.


Celebrations of PDF tenth anniversary

In Islamabad at Hotel Serena on 4th of February 2008, to observe the 10th Anniversary of PDF a comprehensive one-day seminar was arranged. The occasion was graced amongst others, by the Director General of Special Education nominated by the Federal Minister of Women Development, Social Welfare and Special Education, Mr. Watterdal, senior partner of International Development Partnership Norway, Professor Rafiq Tahir, Director, Federal Directorate General of Education, Mr. Khalid Naeem, Director NR, DGSE, Mr. Simon, Country Director, Handicapped International, Mrs. Ishrat Masud, Director SR. The ceremony was Presided Over by the PDF Chairman Mr. Shahid Ahmed Memon while Miss Qudsia presented 32 recommendations during the seminar for re-confirmation from the participants. All the speakers including Chief Guest Mr. Sarfraz appreciated the efforts and role of PDF and its leadership together with the expression on requirements, problems and achievements
towards the promotion of Disabled Community, with that 4 hours long deliberations were concluded very comfortably at thanks and Hi-tea.


Observence of New Islamic Year & PDF 10th anniversary

In Karachi on 9th of January 2008 at Hotel Pearl Continental, PDF had arranged a program on its tenth anniversary together with the observance of new Islamic year as usual. Which was graced amongst others including disabled themselves, the Chairman of Pakistan Steel Rtd. Major General Mohammad Javaid as the Chief Guest appreciated the role and contribution of PDF and announced financial and otherwise immediate support. Dr. Abdul Wahab, President of the Mohammad Ali Jinnah University Karachi join the occasion by expressing his thought provoking expression, Professor Dr. Zia-ud-Din also delivered lecture on sacrification and dedication to grace the starting of New Year. As the Chief Guest of Concluding Ceremony, Mr. Saleem Ahmed Zaidi Minister of Local Bodies, Kachi Abadi and Development Government of Sindh appreciated the efforts of the Foundation and assured the Government’s cooperation as per policy to the disabled community and Foundation itself.
He also gave the cash donation on the spot. By presiding over the Ceremony Mr. Mula Buxsh Khatain Secretary Special Education Government of Sindh announced the favorable decisions to promote the educational and otherwise activities of disabled community in Sindh and invited the delegation of PDF to have dialog with him on disability issues specially in province of Sindh. The Conference was participated by the delegates from all over the country including NWFP, Baluchistan, Punjab, Sindh and Islamabad. The Conference endorsed the entire recommendation maid by the Lahore Conference of PDF from 2nd to 4th December 2007. The Dignitaries and Honored Guests were awarded gifts and souvenirs by the PDF.

Janab Rais Ahmed Jahangir, Chairman National Council of Social Welfare inaugurated the conference and Barrister Shahida Jameel Minister for Social Welfare, Special Education and Women Development graced the concluding ceremony as the Chief Guest while Federal Secretary Ministry of Special Education and Social Welfare Mr. Rasool Bukhsh Baluch Presided Over the Ceremony. Among other high officials from Ministry of Special Education Government of Punjab, The Secretary Mr. Sohail Masood graced the occasion as Chief Guest in one of the important session. The Directorate General of Special Education Government of Pakistan nominated six Directors to take part in the said conference. The top most Federal and Provincial authorities assured to undertake the implementation of recommendation passed by the conference to the maximum
possible extend. The disabled volunteers working hard during previous years in all four provinces, Islamabad and AJK were admired by the award given to them on the occasion.

A comprehensive program was organized on the occasion of Independence Day by arranging various competitions and speeches of the scholars like Prof. Sahar Ansari, Chairman Board of Intermediate Karachi Anwar Ahmed Zai as a key note speaker and others to highlight the importance of movement of independence and consequences. Barrister Shahida Jameel an imminent social worker, politician and Lawyer graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
